One person died in a pre-dawn house fire at the Willimantic Camp Meeting Association grounds in Windham, a fire official said.
A firefighter was taken to the hospital after suffering an injury or heat exhaustion while working to put out the intense blaze, said Jan Mott, chief of the South Windham Fire Department. It took firefighters from more than a half-dozen area departments to extinguish the fire.
South Windham firefighters were called to 3 Cartright Ave. about 3:10 a.m. They were told a person might be inside, but when they arrived at the house it was completely engulfed in flames and the fire had to be fought from outside the 1 ½-story home, Mott said.
