A North Carolina couple was arrested Monday in Hartford’s North End trying to sell five handguns, one of which was reported stolen in South Carolina, and a high-capacity magazine.
Eneida Benitez, 46, and John E. Jones were charged with a series of weapons offenses after they were intercepted by police before they sold those handguns, Lt. Paul Cicero said.
Detectives learned the pair from Springlake, North Carolina, was trying to sell the firearms near Main and Nelson streets and located them with four Hi-Point handguns, one Taurus handgun and one illegal extended magazine, Cicero said. The couple also had a small amount of cocaine and detectives one of the guns was reported stolen.
