No criminal charges will be filed against the person who repainted UConn’s “Spirit Rock” last weekend, changing its “Black Lives Matter” message to “All Lives Matter.”
University officials and prosecutors were able to identify the person using security camera footage but, after reviewing state statutes, concluded that no criminal charges would apply, the university announced Friday evening.
“Even so, painting the Spirit Rock is a campus tradition that is intended solely for UConn students and student organizations,” Chief Diversity Officer Franklin Tuitt wrote in a letter to students and staff. “We will update our policy on the rock to reflect this.
