The UConn women’s basketball team opened their home slate with a convincing 82-47 victory over the No. 20 Cal Golden Bears.
The Huskies set the tone defensively, forcing 29 turnovers and converting them into 35 points. The Golden Bears were limited to just 38 percent shooting, including 2-10 from three.
But even with the stout defense, UConn was dealt a major blow when Katie Lou Samuelson went down awkwardly on a rebound in the second quarter. She went into the locker room and was diagnosed with a foot injury, which forced her out for the remainder of the game.
