After receiving a report Wednesday night regarding two men who had “gone into” the Housatonic River, police have recovered the body of a 23-year-old Friday morning.
The two men were fishing near the Bleachery Dam Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m., when it appeared that one of the men fell into the river. The second man tried to rescue him when he was “swept in,” Lt. Earl Wheeler said.
“We had first responders respond out to the scene. Fire personnel, police personnel, medical personnel and search and rescue efforts were underway to bring the two individuals out of the water when they had gone under,” Wheeler said.
