A New Haven teen accidentally shot his friend in the leg Tuesday afternoon while they sat inside a car in a Hill neighborhood parking lot.

Kanaji Jones, 19, was arrested at the scene and charged with eight offenses, including second-degree assault and interfering with a police officer, Capt. Anthony Duff said Wednesday.

The incident began just after 3:20 p.m. Tuesday when emergency personnel were called to the parking lot on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard at Printers Lane and discovered a 21-year-old Hamden man had been shot in the thigh, Duff said.

Jones remained on scene and was detained while detectives canvassed the area, ultimately locating the handgun that had been fired, Duff said.
