The city native, who has been a local police officer for 21 years and chief for the past two years, will depart in the spring, officials said.
“I will continue to be a resident here and spend more time with my family, who have been with me through thick and thin,” Reyes said. “This job is taxing on the mind, body, and spirit, and I salute all my fellow officers on their tireless work. I will miss you all greatly.”
His term as department leader was to end in January 2022, so city officials will have to find an interim chief, a news release said.
