Police are asking for the public’s help in finding out who has been firing paintball guns out of cars at passing motorists and pedestrians in New Haven.

There were numerous reports of such drive-by shootings in October, Capt. Anthony Duff said Tuesday. Police made several arrests and seized some paintball guns.

About 10 p.m. Saturday, Halloween, when someone in a car on Hallock Avenue fired paint balls at uniformed officers as the officers stood in front of a building, Duff said. The paint balls missed them but struck the building.

The car was described as a black sedan, and it was last seen headed north on Hallock toward Lamberton Street in the Hill neighborhood, police said.
