New Haven man dies in motorcycle, SUV collision, police say

A New Haven man has been charged with driving while under the influence after a crash Friday night that killed a motorcyclist, city police said.

Elliott Moore of New Haven, 52, was arrested after the collision, which killed Daniel Velazquez, 42, also of New Haven. He posted $150,000 bail.

According to police, the crash happened about 9:30 p.m. when Moore was traveling west on Whalley Avenue in an SUV and Velazquez was headed east. Moore began to turn left onto Ramsdell Street when the motorcycle and the left front of the SUV collided.

The department’s Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene and continues to investigate, police said.
