New Britain worker, 19, gets medal for saving friend’s life on the job

When New Britain after-school worker 24-year-old Patrick Molokwu was playing tag with youngsters on Nov. 10, he suddenly collapsed unconscious on the ground outside Lincoln School.

He believes that without help from 19-year-old friend and coworker Kevin Slisz, he might not have survived what turned out to be a heart attack.

“Your actions gave Patrick a fighting chance to live,” Mayor Erin Stewart told Slisz at a brief ceremony at city hall. “Patrick Molokwu is alive and able to spend the holidays with his family because of your brave actions.”

Slisz and Molokwu were playing tag with youngsters in the after-school program; because of coronavirus precautions, they were outside and the children were using foam pool noodles to tag each other.
