More than 13,000 Connecticut taxpayers have $129 million in unclaimed IRS refunds from 2017; must act by May 17

Around 13,200 Connecticut residents have unclaimed tax refunds from 2017, that average just over $800, the IRS said Monday afternoon.

“The IRS wants to help taxpayers who are due refunds but haven’t filed their 2017 tax returns yet,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said. “Time is quickly running out for these taxpayers. There’s only a three-year window to claim these refunds, and the window closes on May 17.”

According to the IRS, over 1.3 million taxpayers throughout the country have over a billion dollars of unclaimed returns from 2017. If unclaimed within three years, the money then goes to the U.
