HARTFORD — The march through the American Hockey League playoffs is taking the Manchester Monarchs to Connecticut this week and the timing couldn't be better for a native son.
Sean Backman was raised in Greenwich, honed his hockey skills at Avon Old Farms and played collegiately at Yale. He is part of Connecticut's preeminent hockey family — his father, former NHL player Mike Backman, is hockey director at the Stamford Twin Rinks, and his brother-in-law is Hamden's Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings.
The Monarchs, coming off two home victories against the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL Eastern Conference final series, will play Tuesday and Wednesday at the XL Center.
