Milford man spits at police officers, claiming he has coronavirus infection, while resisting arrest, police say

A Milford man spat at police officers and claimed he had COVID-19, threatening the officers and their families, after the officers tried to break up a fight between roommates Thursday afternoon.

Stephen McCarthy, 27, was arrested and charged with five offenses, including assault of a police officer and second-degree threatening, after the strange fight, according to police.

Officers were called Thursday afternoon to help stop the fight between McCarthy and a roommate at their 300 Meadowside Road apartment and found McCarthy extremely agitated, according to a brief police report.

Officers attempted to arrest McCarthy, but he resisted and spit at officers while claiming he had tested positive for the highly contagious disease caused by the novel coronavirus, police said.
