Middletown police arrest man after allegedly nearly striking a woman with his car and attempting to coerce her into it

Middletown police have arrested a registered sex offender after he allegedly nearly struck a woman with his vehicle and attempted to coerce her into it Wednesday evening.

Police said they initially responded to the area of 52 North Main St. on a report that someone nearly struck a person with a car and then tried to drag them into their vehicle.

Police said after they arrived on the scene a woman they did not identify told them that while she was walking on North Main Street a man in a car backed his vehicle up to her and asked her to “be his friend.
