Gunshots rang out early Tuesday morning outside the newsroom of the Record-Journal newspaper in Meriden, striking the building and a delivery vehicle outside several times.

The delivery driver was not hurt and no one was in the building at the time, but newspaper staff arrived at their 500 S. Broad St. newsroom to discover bullet holes and damage all over the office building, the newspaper reported.

The staff counted nine shots that hit the building in all, including through the front windows of the first floor and the ceiling of the business underneath the newsroom, Record-Journal Assistant Managing Editor Richie Rathsack said in a series of tweets posted Tuesday morning.
