Pulled by a tugboat, the Mayflower II left the historic Seaport at 9 a.m. bound for New London, arriving without incident. While docked in New London, the crew of 27 is to put the square-rigger through two weeks of sea trials before sailing for her home berth in Plymouth, Mass.
Over three years and at a cost of $11.2 million, shipwrights at Mystic Seaport replaced about 70 percent of the vessel’s timbers, planking, structural frames, knees and beams, using six types of wood from eight states and 20,000 board feet of Danish white oak.
