TRENTON, N.J. — Standing outside the clubhouse after a recent Trenton Thunder game at Arm & Hammer Park, Alex Smith told the story of his most recent spring training experience, part of which was spent on the big league side of the Yankees' complex in Tampa, Fla.
"I've rooted for the Yankees my whole life, always," Smith started. "So it was, 'Whoa, there's Alex Rodriguez. There's Joe Girardi. They're right there.' Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller. Great guys. You could ask them anything and they were willing to help."
Moments later, Smith looked up and said, "What's up, Reg?
