MANCHESTER — Manchester police have taken down a Thin Blue Line flag outside the station to comply with a new town policy, the department spokesman said Wednesday.
“That particular flag means something different to police officers than it has come to mean to some folks in our community,” Shanley said.
Protesters had demanded removal of the Thin Blue Line flag, calling it a racist response to the Black Lives Matter movement. Police officers, however, say the flag honors those who protect and serve, a symbol of professional pride and solidarity.
The policy that the board of directors approved last month says the board has the final decision on which flags fly on town property.
