Man shot by Meriden detective last week in treatment for injuries; police found gun underneath him at scene, report says

A 24-year-old man shot once by police during a foot chase late last week in Meriden was still recovering from his injuries Thursday as the New London state’s attorney issued a preliminary report about the events leading up to the shooting.

Kenneth Strothers suffered one gunshot wound to his abdomen after a Meriden police detective fired through the window of a car Strothers was hiding behind while trying to escape arrest on a felony robbery charge from a January incident in West Hartford, according to the report from New London State’s Attorney Paul Narducci released Thursday afternoon.

Strothers was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he remains detained by West Hartford police on first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny offenses, according to court records.
