A young man who was pulled, lifeless, from a New Haven pond last weekend turned out to be an 18-year-old who had been missing since December, police said Friday.

Staff at the medical examiner’s office confirmed the person’s name on Thursday, Capt. Anthony Duff said.

His family reported him missing on Dec. 20, and police immediately began investigating, he said. A patrol officer responded to the family’s home, and, following protocol, police entered information about the young man into a national database. A Silver Alert also was issued.

In addition, officers and Special Victims Unit detectives checked local hospitals and shelters, while investigators went to areas where he was known to visit, Duff said.
