Man dies in Waterbury shooting, crash, police say

Officers responded to a report of gunfire on Walnut Avenue shortly before 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. They found a man in the driver’s seat of a crashed 2020 KIA Optima; the car had struck a fire hydrant and parked car near 44 Walnut Ave., police said.

The driver had a gunshot wound to the torso and head injuries, and a paramedic confirmed that he had died, according to police. The man’s death is a homicide.

Police determined the driver was 27 years old. They said they are waiting to confirm his identity through an autopsy before releasing his name.
