A man who lost control of a motorized scooter and fell down an embankment into a Suffield canal has died, police said.
David McIntire, 51, of Enfield was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., where he died hours later, Chief Richard D. Brown said.
It happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, when McIntire was riding the scooter on a trail near the Connecticut River and Canal Street, he said. He lost control, fell to the pavement and rolled down an embankment, landing in the canal.
Some bystanders saw him floating face down, pulled him from the water and started CPR until medics arrived and took over, the chief said.
