A 36-year-old man is charged with stealing $77,000 worth of sheet metal from a South Windsor trophy manufacturer and selling it for scrap.
Nelson Santiago stole the metal over a period of five months while he was working at Discount Trophy on Governor’s Highway, according to police.
Santiago was arrested Tuesday on a charge of first-degree larceny, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
South Windsor police began investigating last January and determined that Santiago, of 22 Lyndale St., Manchester, had been stealing from his employer since August of 2019. He sold the stolen metal to a salvage yard, police said.
