A man died after his kayak overturned in a Pomfret river Sunday night, a spokesman for the state’s environmental agency said.
Environmental police responded to a report of a missing kayaker and a submerged kayak that was missing an occupant in the Quinebaug River. Rescuers found a man, and paramedics pronounced him dead, said Will Healey of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
“DEEP continues to advise people getting on the water to wear a life jacket any time of the year,” Healey said. “Through May 30th, it is mandatory to wear a life jacket if operating a paddle craft.
