Westbound Interstate 84 is closed Thursday evening after a car struck a pedestrian, snarling holiday traffic along the highway and causing long delays.
The crash happened just after 5 p.m. between Exits 16 and 17 on the highway and all westbound traffic was being diverted off the highway at Exit 17 into Middlebury while investigators worked at the scene.
A short state alert indicated a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle, but no further information about that person’s condition or the crash was immediately available.
The entire westbound side of the highway remained shutdown an hour after the crash and officials have not said when the highway might reopen.
