Police have arrested three people they suspect plastered monuments in Waterbury’s Holy Land with graffiti.
Heniel Centeno, 23; Yianyilee Mejia, 21, both of Waterbury, and a juvenile were charged with third-degree criminal trespass; first-degree criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief, police said Tuesday. Centeno also was charged with third-degree intimidation based on bigotry or bias.
Centeno was in custody on $75,000 bail, and Mejia’s bond was set at $50,000, they said. The juvenile was released on a written promise to appear in court.
Police announced the arrest the morning after they released surveillance images of the three leaving a Target store, where police said they bought the spray paint used to mar monuments at the iconic hilltop religious retreat.
