‘He had so much more to give;’ Jaqhawn Walters, 24, mourned by teammates, coaches, Hartford community

Jaqhawn Walters’ hopes and dreams centered around basketball and the opportunity it could provide to escape the violence of Hartford’s North End — the violence that claimed his father — and to one day make a difference there.

Walters was an All-State player at University High School of Science and Engineering, and was already a standout at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven when his father, Joseph Lindsey, was killed in 2015.

“He played pro in Argentina last year and planned on heading back this year,” said Mitch Oliver, the Albertus Magnus coach. “The plan was to play a few years, as long as he can, and then come and give back to the community and make a difference.
