The Criminal Justice Commission made the unprecedented move Thursday to suspend Hartford State’s Attorney Gail P. Hardy for an “inexcusable delay” in resolving four deadly police shooting investigations for upwards of 11 years.
Hardy, who has held the position for 13 years, will now serve a four-day suspension during the final eight days of her term. The commission, which has sole oversight over the state’s top prosecutors, plans to consider her reappointment in a session scheduled next week. She is the first state’s attorney to be suspended since the commission formed more than three decades ago.
“This is an unprecedented action as far as I know … no state’s attorney has previously been disciplined by the Criminal Justice Commission.
