No one was hurt. Firefighters answered an alarm at 8:18 p.m. at 123 Bedford St., where flames were blowing out a second-floor window as they arrived, department spokesman and District Chief of Staff Mario Oquendo Jr. said Sunday. Firefighters had the blaze under control at 8:55 p.m.
The cause is under investigation, Oquendo said. Eight of the 12 apartments were occupied and 14 adults and one child were displaced, although those numbers may change because not all tenants were home at the time, he said. The department’s special services unit and the American Red Cross helped the displaced families.
