UConn incoming freshman Mikayla Coombs has accomplished just about everything in her high school career except lead her Wesleyan School to a state title.
Coombs did everything she could to change that by scoring 28 points to go with nine rebounds, two assists, four steals and a blocked shot in a 77-35 win over Lakeview Academy in the semifinals of Georgia Class A tournament on Saturday. Now comes the state final on Friday against rival Holy Innocents', the program responsible for half of the 16 losses Wesleyan has suffered in the last three seasons.
A year ago Holy Innocents' topped Wesleyan in the state final and won two regular-season games this season before Wesleyan rebounded for a 59-50 win in the Region 5-A championship game behind 27 points from Coombs.
