Former Yale fertility nurse admits to tampering with hundreds of fentanyl vials from clinic, federal prosecutors say

A former Yale fertility clinic nurse admitted this week that she stole or tampered with hundreds of fentanyl vials in the clinic’s supply over at least five months last year.

Donna Monticone, 49, pleaded guilty Tuesday to an account of tampering with a consumer product before U.S. District Judge Janet Hall in U.S. District Court.

Investigators concluded last fall that approximately 75 percent of the fentanyl given to patients at the Yale Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility clinic in Orange was diluted or replaced entirely with saline from June to October 2020, prosecutors said.

“In June 2020, Monticone began stealing fentanyl for her own use,” prosecutors said.
