Four people, including a baby, escaped injury when they rushed out of their burning home in Manchester late Thursday night, a fire official said.
The two-story house at 197 School St. is temporarily unlivable, said Daniel A. French, assistant chief of Manchester-Fire-Rescue-EMS.
Firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 11 p.m. and when they arrived, they encountered heavy flames in the garage and first floor, French said. It took about 40 minutes to get the fire under control so it wouldn’t spread.
Seventeen members of the fire department put out the fire with help from six from the town’s volunteer department, Manchester Fire Department, Eighth Utilities District.
