Two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and the residents of 12 units were displaced during an overnight fire at a Middletown condo complex, a fire official said Thursday.
The three-alarm fire at Trolley Crossing gutted two of three units, said Chief Jason Lubee of the Westfield Fire Department. No residents were injured.
Two firefighters, one from Westfield, one from Cromwell, were taken to Middlesex Hospital for treatment of possible heat exhaustion and released, Lubee said.
When firefighters first arrived, flames were coming out of second and third-floor windows at the condos, he said.
The fire took about an hour to get under control, with the hot temperatures being the biggest challenge.
