Fire leads to evacuation at large East Hartford condo complex

A pre-dawn fire in a large condo complex in East Hartford forced residents to flee their homes Wednesday morning.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire in a bedroom of a third-floor unit at Lamplight Condominiums, 505-509 Burnside Ave., Chief John Oates said. No one was injured, and damage was confined to one condo unit.

Oates called for a second-alarm, bringing a second team of firefighters and equipment to the scene, because of the large size of the U-shaped complex. But the flames were knocked down in 20-25 minutes, he said.

“Fortunately, the fire was … confined to one apartment, with one family affected, which is good, all things considered,” Oates said.
