A fire at a Vernon apartment building Sunday left seven people injured, officials said, as firefighters were forced to rescue trapped occupants.
Officials said a fire alarm was activated in the three-story building, located at 26 Union St., at 10:43 a.m. Sunday. First responders arrived to find “heavy fire” coming from the second floor, with “several occupants hanging from windows,” assistant fire chief Rob Babcock said.
The fire is now controlled, Babcock said, and injured residents are being treated at Rockville General Hospital, just across the street from the site of the fire. Most of the injuries were due to the smoke inhalation, he said.
