Federal law spurred by Oxford killing would prevent individuals under temporary restraining orders from purchasing firearms

In 2014, Lori Jackson had been at her family’s Oxford home for over five weeks, trying to leave an abusive partner.

During those five weeks, her family never felt safe, her mother, Merry Jackson, said Tuesday. And on May 7 of that year, Lori’s husband would break into their home and fire multiple shots, killing her and injuring her mother. His gun was bought legally, and it’s time to close the loophole that allowed him to do so nationwide, Jackson said at a virtual news conference advocating for passage of the Lori Jackson Domestic Violence Survivor Protection Act.
