Fatal house fire under investigation

The cause of a Saturday evening house fire in West Hartford that left one person dead and another injured is under investigation by police and the fire marshal’s office.

According to West Hartford Fire Chief Greg Priest, dispatchers received a report of a fire from someone inside and Elmfield Street home at 9:52 p.m. and that the first fire unit arrived on the scene at 9:57 to find heavy fire coming from the front of the home.

Upon arrival occupants of the home told police officers and firefighters that there were possibly one or two people still inside, Priest said, prompting multiple fire crews to simultaneously extinguish the heavy fire and search the interior of the residence for the missing occupant.
