Ducks and chickens escaped a fierce fire Monday afternoon that destroyed a combination barn and garage in the Terryville section of Plymouth.
“They’re freaked out right now,” Tessa Barrett said as she watched the varied fowl bobbing in and out of an evergreen hedge between her home and 327 South Eagle St., where her in-laws live.
The alarm came in at 1:13 p.m. The blaze, which destroyed the structure, was fed by a 150-pound propane tank and two 55-gallon drums of waste oil, Fire Chief Mark Sekorski said. Firefighters were letting the oil drums burn off after assuring that no one was in danger, Sekorski said.
