Authorities on Thursday identified the man whose body was recovered from Coventry Lake on Wednesday, after his car went into the water.
The spokesperson for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Will Healey, said witnesses saw Zumpe’s car drive off the Coventry Lake boat launch around noon on Wednesday. Coventry police, fire and EMS responded to the scene. Healey said, and one police officer went into the freezing water in just their standard-issue uniform.
A number of other fire and police departments from the surrounding towns responded to the scene. Two dive teams — one from Tolland County and the other from the Connecticut State Police — searched for Zumpe throughout Wednesday afternoon.
