Driver fatally shot in Waterbury, police say

The deadly shooting happened shortly before 8 p.m. at Cherry Street and East Main Street, they said. Responding police found a crashed Audi and a 28-year-old man in the driver’s seat with gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced the man dead.

They determined that the driver was stopped on Cherry Street for a traffic signal when a dark SUV pulled up next to the Audi. Someone in the SUV fired at the driver, and the SUV sped south on Baldwin Street, police said.

The Audi driver turned right onto East Main Street, traveled a short distance and crashed into a parked car near 325 East Main St.
