Dozens of animals were rescued from an “uninhabitable” Hamden home on Monday morning, but four more were found dead after a search of the property.
Animal control officers from a half-dozen agencies descended on the house at 200 Blue Hills Avenue after an “extensive investigation” led by the Hamden Animal Control Division, police announced Monday.
Officers were immediately greeted by two large rats when they entered the house and went on to find 26 cats, five dogs, two caged squirrels and an owl, police said.
The surviving animals were transported for treatment and vaccinations at Mount Carmel Veterinary Hospital, North Haven Animal Hospital and Ridgehill Animal Hospital, police said.
