On Thursday night the Phoenix Mercury defeated the Connecticut Sun 84-77 as Diana Taurasi achieved another career milestone, surpassing Tina Thompson with her 2,631st career field goal made to become the WNBA’s all-time field goal leader.
The former UConn women’s basketball star took the top spot with a 3-pointer early in the third quarter.
Taurasi scored an additional field goal prior to the end of Thursday’s game, and now sits on top of the leaderboard with 2,632 field goals in just her 14th season. Thompson’s prior record was set in 17 seasons.
This wasn’t the first time Taurasi created buzz this week.
