Gov. Ned Lamont will extend his pandemic-related emergency powers through April 20, the governor announced at a Monday afternoon press briefing.
“Given the ambiguity out there between the vaccines, the relative stability, where we’re going, yet we still have the 5% infection rate, yet we still have the risk of Europe and what you could see there in terms of a flare-up ... [chief of staff] Paul [Mounds] and I have decided to formally request of the legislative leaders that we get our emergency authorization extended a little bit longer,” Lamont said.
Lamont said that he selected the April 20 date because he believes that by then the state will have much more information on the pandemic, from vaccinations to the spread of the more contagious strains of the virus.
