The number of “red alert” COVID-19 hotspots in Connecticut grew to 19 municipalities Thursday as Gov. Ned Lamont said he is worried about a rising number of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations.
When the state first rolled out the “red alert” classification two weeks ago, there were only four municipalities on the list. Last week, it jumped to 11. When a municipality reaches the “red alert” phase, it’s averaging at least 15 new daily cases per 100,000 residents and it is legally permitted to roll back to Phase 2 reopening restrictions if it chooses. The state also recommends that residents of those high-risk towns get coronavirus tested regularly and cancel gatherings with anyone outside their households.
