In 2020, Connecticut lost nearly 9,000 hotel jobs in 2020 and is expected to remain down nearly 6,000 jobs in 2021, according to data compiled by the industry group American Hotel and Lodging Association.
Those numbers include only jobs directly within the hotel industry, not adjacent jobs such as hotel suppliers or tourist-focused businesses. The losses are compared to the 2019 numbers.
Nationwide, more than 670,000 jobs were lost in the industry in 2020, according to the AHLA. And in 2021, only a portion of those jobs are expected to be recovered, leaving the hotel industry still own more than 475,000 jobs.
