MANCHESTER — A Manchester woman charged with bludgeoning her neighbor to death with a hammer was found incompetent to stand trial at a recent court hearing.

Judge Laura Baldini found that Dalas Elder would not be able to understand the proceedings against her or help with her own defense. Baldini ordered that Elder be held at the maximum security Whiting Forensic Hospital in Middletown, where she is to undergo treatment to try and restore her to competency.

Elder, 73, is charged with murder in the death of Andrea Mazzoli, her neighbor at Krause Gardens Apartments. On April 23, Mazzoli, 73, was found unconscious outside a rear door at the Hartford Road complex.
