Connecticut has now reported more than 8,000 coronavirus-linked deaths since the pandemic began, a reminder that the virus is still present in the community even as about half of all Connecticut residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
“Fatalities, tragically you can see we surpassed 8,000 deaths. 8,000 deaths over the last year,” Gov. Ned Lamont said Monday.
Overall, 8,014 Connecticut residents have died of COVID-19, according to state data released Monday.
As of late last week, more than 80% of those deaths were among residents from three of Connecticut’s eight counties.
