Connecticut Department of Correction Commissioner Rollin Cook announced Friday that he will resign from his post atop the state’s prison system effective July 1.
The unexpected announcement was “solely for personal reasons,” Cook said in a statement, and not related to the intense scrutiny and legal fights his department has faced for its response to the coronavirus pandemic as the virus quickly spread through the state’s inmate population and correction staff.
Cook will return to his family in Utah, his home state, where they have stayed since December after a death in the family and remained during the coronavirus shutdowns, he wrote in a memo to staff.
