A 32-year-old Connecticut inmate from Windsor was found dead Wednesday with a ligature made from a cloth mask around his neck, Department of Correction officials said.

Daniel Ocasio was found in sitting bunk at Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center about 5:07 a.m., officials said.

Correction officers and medical staff immediately started life-saving measures, officials said, and 911 was called. EMS transported Ocasio to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 5:55 a.m.

Ocasio was being held at the facility on $10,000 bond for third-degree burglary charge, DOC officials said.

The mask used to form the ligature was provided to inmates in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, according to DOC officials.
