Connecticut employers cut 1,600 jobs in November, the state Department of Labor, reported Thursday, as the state’s unemployment rate climbed to 8.2% as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to batter Connecticut’s workforce and its economy.
“The higher COVID rates this fall caused closures and a pause in economic activity; these unemployment numbers generally reflect what people are seeing in terms of curtailed dining and retail,” Kurt Westby, the state’s labor commissioner, said, in a release.
However, Westby said the economy is showing an “underlying resilience that bodes well for the recovery once the vaccine is widely distributed and people can re-engage in activities.
